Jenny Zienau and I are in the final stage of editing the new issue of Work Organisation, Labour and Globalisation. Compared with the last one, which had a very European focus, this one is emphatically global in scope. Co-edited with Catherine McKercher and Vincent Mosco, it addresses the question: will knowledge workers of the world unite?
Watch out for articles on how ‘grey collar’ digital workers in China are using SMS to organise, on new forms of trade union organisation in Taiwan among film workers and on attempts to unionise India’s ICT workers. Other articles look at communications workers as varied as cartoonists, postal workers, screenwriters, librarians and the logistics workers who play such a key role in connecting the links in global value chains.
We are hoping to have it published in print and online in October. Watch this space.
